Mission Statement
The mission of the Presque Isle Housing Authority is to assist low and moderate-income families with safe, decent and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and/or to improve the quality of their lives. The Housing Authority is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical and professional manner without discrimination. The Housing Authority will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies to accomplish this mission.
Our History
The Presque Isle Housing Authority (PHA) was established in 1943 under State enabling legislation and authorized by resolution of the Presque Isle City Council. It is covered under the federal Housing Act of 1937 as amended, and primarily funded and regulated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Regular Meetings
- Meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. in person at 58 Birch Street with guests able to join via Zoom.
- The date and location of the regular meeting is subject to change but shall be designated at a prior meeting of the Board or at least 1 week before the meeting date.

Commissioners Role
The Commissioners serve five-year terms (unless appointed to fill an unexpired term of a previous member) and they are appointed by the Presque Isle City Council. They meet once a month and vote on various items such as policies, budget approvals, etc.
Presque Isle Housing Authority By-Laws
The By-Laws state: "the Commissioners of the Authority shall perform such duties as are incumbent upon them by reason of their appointment to any office and by law and shall perform such other duties and functions as may from time to time be required by the Authority or its By-Laws, or which may arise by reason of their appointment to serve on committees functioning within the Authority or in cooperation with other persons or groups."

COVID-19 Information
Presque Isle Housing Authority offices at 58 Birch Street are open for walk in customers to pick up paperwork or program information. All other business such as interviews, re-exams, orientations are done by appointment only. All visitors will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms. Effective April 4, 2022 we are mask optional. A drop box is still available for rent payments and other paperwork.
The Presque Isle Housing Authority follows Maine CDC information for COVID-19 safety protocol and guidance.
